Tough Day For KRT Duo At Most

Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes each had a challenging first race day at Most with Lowes finishing 13th in Race One and Rea no-scoring after experiencing two falls. Rea had started the race from pole position after heading up the Tissot Superpole qualifying session this morning.

In dry conditions at Most in the Czech Republic Rea and Lowes faced an important FP3 session to determine final race set-up on their Ninja ZX-10RR machines, before facing the intense Tissot Superpole session.

Rea continued his remarkable form in qualifying, scoring his 33rd career Tissot Superpole success, and his sixth successive Superpole pre race ‘win’ with a new track best lap of 1’31.684. Lowes was ninth in Superpole, earning a third row start.

In the race Rea was in contention for a podium finish after some close battles with eventual race winner Toprak Razgatlioglu and second place finisher Scott Redding. Entering the very slow first chicane Rea was to fall, without injury, and get restarted in 11th place.

Despite parts of his bike being bent in the crash he returned to action but he was to fall again, entering Turn 20, on lap 18 of 22. This time there could be no restart to fight for more points and was forced to retire.

On lap one of the race Lowes ran-on into the super-tight first chicane and lost time in the escape road before he rejoined the race in 16th place.

Continuing to lap the very intense 4.212km long circuit in pursuit of more championship points he got up to 12th place before falling at Turn One on lap five. Restarting just like his team-mate had done earlier, Lowes was able to continue and finished his race in 13th place, earning some points after a gritty ride.

In a race of attrition only 13 riders finished, with nine competitors not reaching the finish line in what was the first ever WorldSBK race at this circuit.

Now Alex and Jonathan will face two more races at Most, on Sunday 8 August. The first will be a ten lap Tissot Superpole ‘sprint’ race in the morning and then a final 22-lap Race Two on Sunday afternoon, at 15.15 local time.

Jonathan Rea, stated: “I am perfectly OK after today’s falls. In the first crash going into the chicane I was just about on line but it was very strange because I crashed early on the bumps. It seems like a similar crash to the one I had in Donington. The bike was quite bent but I could see after I had picked it up I was in 11th place - so in a points scoring position, I was just riding around. Honestly, I do not know what happened in the penultimate corner. I was concentrating on what I was doing, not pushing super-hard and I just crashed. I was doing everything OK and then I was in the gravel. I am just frustrated with the outcome. In Superpole I had lost a bit of time early in my best lap and I knew I really had to put the last two sectors together. That last sector has been a strong point for us all weekend so I knew if I was calm and hit my points on the track it would be good enough for the front row, but maybe not pole.

Alex Lowes, stated: “A tough day at a tough track for me. Physically I am not good enough to ride at 100% and this track is really hard in that respect. I had a bad start and I made a little mistake and that first corner is quite hard in general. The pace was what it was after the fall but we got some points on the board. A tough day but we will try to do better tomorrow.”

Isaac Vinales (Orelac Racing VerdNatura Kawasaki) qualified 19th in Tissot Superpole and finished the first Most race in 12th position, scoring four more championship points for his efforts.

Loris Cresson (TPR Outdo Kawasaki) fell on lap 11 today while his new team-mate Jayson Uribe (TPR Outdo Kawasaki) crashed out at Turn 15 in his first ever WorldSBK race.
