AMA NGPC Championship Round 5 | Primm, NV

Strong winds made for a blustery pro race at the fifth round of the 2022 National Grand Prix Championship. In fact, the Chaparral Motorsports, PC, Kawasaki team had their canopies picked up by the wind on Saturday. Though they were weighted down, all three tents (two 10x10's and a 10x15) landed on the roof of the team rig. It was quite the sight, and took numerous people to help pull everything down, for which the team was very grateful. In terms of the track, hosting Shamrocks club mixed up many of the familiar racing lanes at the popular venue. The result was softer conditions over much of the course, which led to some rough and challenging terrain.

Tyler Lynn — 4th Pro

The green lights were quick to blaze at the beginning of the pro race. This seemed to catch a few riders out. But Tyler Lynn was ready, which put him right toward the front of the pack through the opening corners. He was able to lock down fourth position as the racers headed out into the sandy desert. Over the first two laps, Lynn was right on the tail of third place Justin Hoeft, with the leading Dante Oliveira and Cole Martinez just seconds further ahead. Unfortunately, a slight bit of arm pump crept into Tyler's race around the third lap, which allowed Austin Walton to make the pass, dropping Lynn to fifth.

A lap later, Hoeft crashed hard up ahead, and Tyler was the first rider to him. Lynn stopped to make sure Justin was ok. After receiving the thumbs up, Tyler got back up to speed. He had dropped a bit of time in stopping, however, which allowed the battling duo of Dalton Shirey and Dare DeMartille to close in. Fortunately, Tyler's tightness began to fade, and the KX450X-mounted rider stretched away from the fifth- and sixth-place riders. Through the pit stops, Lynn's speed was on pace the leaders. However, the gap that had opened up to the podium positions was sizable enough that there wasn't much to gain by pushing the limit in the deteriorating conditions. So, Tyler settled in over the final couple laps to earn his second-straight top-5 finish of the '22 NGPC season.

Robby Bell — 1st Vet AA

There was a new face on the line of the vet class in Primm. NHHA ace Jake Argubright joined Robby, Nick Stover, and the other vet class regulars for forty-five minutes of sand slinging. When the starting light turned green, Bell's KX450X hooked up to perfection, rocketing him off the line and into the first turn with the lead. After tip-toeing through the slick, opening corners, and fending off a couple pass attempts from Argubright, Robby was able to open it up and set sail. The Kawasaki rider pulled time each lap, en route to his fifth vet-class overall of the NGPC season.

"We definitely had a wild moment there on Saturday! As we were watching the AA race [where the pro riders shake down their equipment] all of the sudden these gigantic dust devils, well, more like mini tornado's, started tearing across the infield. Then, I turned around and see all three of our canopies, with the pit skirts and heavy-based metal poles, hanging over the rig. They had to have lifted at least25 feet in the air to get over the rig the way they did. It was a crazy thing to see. But I'm grateful that so many people came to help us get everything down. Fortunately, the rig came through unscathed, and we only lost one canopy frame. So, now it's just a great story to tell.

When it came to the pro race, Tyler had a really good ride. He started up front with the top riders in the championship, and definitely had the pace over the first two-plus laps. This was his best showing in the 90-minute sprint of the NGPC's to date. I think he's really close to breaking through and mixing it up with the top-three. Once he gets that lap 3-to-4 stretch nailed down, I think he'll be right there. It's been fun to watch his progression this year and hopefully he can keep it rolling!" - Robby Bell, Team Manager
