Febvre Secures 10th Podium of the Season in Latvia, Maintains Championship Lead

Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s Romain Febvre extended his lead in the FIM Motocross World Championship with his 10th podium of the season at the Kegums circuit in Latvia. Kawasaki also continues to lead the Manufacturers' Championship standings.

The Frenchman grabbed his best start in several rounds during the opening moto, but two early incidents proved costly. After making a decisive move into second, the race leader faltered in the next corner, forcing Febvre to clip his rear wheel. Just two turns later, he lost drive exiting a soft berm and was shuffled back to fourth. Over the next ten laps, Febvre was repeatedly denied opportunities to pass on the single-line track and eventually dropped to seventh when a berm collapsed beneath him. He recovered to sixth with a bold outside pass and mounted a late charge, but was unable to claim fifth before the checkered flag.

In the second moto, Febvre executed a tight line in turn one to slot into third and spent the entire race pressuring the riders ahead. Despite relentless effort and drawing alongside several times in the closing laps, he couldn’t make a pass stick. His consistent pace and determination were enough to secure another overall podium—his tenth in eleven rounds.

Febvre now holds a 26-point lead in the championship as the series heads to the iconic Matterley Basin in England in two weeks.

Romain Febvre:
"It was a tough weekend, but that’s racing. The track was really one-lined, and every time you tried something off the main line, it got too soft. In the first moto, I was running fourth and pushing for third when I fell. The second race was better—I was battling up front, but I just couldn’t get by. Still, I’m on the podium again, and now we head to Matterley. Everyone likes that track—it’s wide, fast, and usually has a lot of lines, so we’ll see what happens there."
