GENNAI SCORES DOUBLE VICTORY IN PORTUGAL
In scorching temperatures at the Portimão Circuit, Kawasaki's Mirko Gennai dominated the WorldSSP300 races, securing back-to-back wins on August 10th and 11th. The challenging 2.85-mile track didn’t deter Gennai, who capitalized on a front-row start alongside his MTM Kawasaki teammate, Loris Veneman, who had secured pole position during Friday’s Superpole.
Saturday’s Race 1 saw Veneman lead early, but Gennai battled through the pack, executing a perfect last-lap strategy to clinch victory. Race 2 on Sunday followed a similar script, with Gennai once again taking the lead in the final laps to complete his weekend double. Veneman, after a fierce fight, finished second by just two-thousandths of a second and set the fastest lap of the race.
Gennai’s stellar performance in the intense heat solidified his dominance, while Veneman’s consistent results earned him the championship lead.
